Golden Eagles throttle Titans 12-1

ALEDO - The Mercer County High School softball team beat Monmouth-Roseville 12-2 in the first round of the Class 2A softball regional Monday.

The Golden Eagles dominated from the outset scoring four runs in the first; five in the second and three in the third inning building a 12-0 lead over the first three innings of the contest.

Bailey Swanson was the winning pitcher allowing only one hit while striking  out nine. Tess Taylor and Alex Johnson each drive in two runs and had two hits. Taylor also scored three times.

The Titans got on the board in the top of the fifth inning scoring twice. Cora Neal led off the inning with a single. Trisha Haskins walked. Neal and Haskins later scored to cut the lead to 12-2.

The game ended on a 6-3-2 double play with the last out coming at the plate. Another run in the inning would have extended the contest but with Mercer County holding a 10 run lead after 4 1/2 innings the contest ended.
