ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – A school record setting performance was the highlight of the second day of the Highland Classic for Head Coach Tom Lawrence’s Augustana women’s golf team. The Vikings actually bettered a pair of team school records on Sunday, September 3 as they finished second in the nine-team event at the par-72, 5,818 yard Highland Springs layout in Rock Island.

Augustana, led by the individual runner-up finish from sophomore Melanie Loefler(Lockport Township HS, Homer Glen, Ill.), placed second with a two-day total of 659. That eclipsed the previous school record for a four-person team over 36 holes. The record was second just one year ago when the Vikings went 660 (329-331) at the 2016 Highland Classic on September 3-4 with the following scores:(day one = 70-Melanie Loeffler; 80-Jenna Lawrence; 86-Chelsea Meyer; 93-Jenna Stone) (day two = 77-Melanie Loeffler; 81-Jenna Lawrence; 83-Chelsea Meyer; 90-Korina Freidag).

The single day record for 18 holes also came down as the Vikings recorded a 322 today to take down the 323 from September 6, 2008: (75 - Rachel Gahn; 82 - Danielle Detelich; 83 - Heather Arizpe; 83 - Megan McNulty).

Loefler shot a two-day score of 156 with a first day score of 80 and then she followed that up with a 76 today. She tied with Mattie Mahlum of Viterbo (156=79+77) for second place with Danielle Ducklow of Viterbo winning with a two-day total of 151. Ducklow shot 82 the first day but then roared back and put a 69 on the board the second day.

Viking senior Jenna Lawrence(Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) placed sixth with a score of 163 (84+79) while sophomore Grace Ludwig(Glenbard East HS, Lombard, Ill.) was 13th with a 166 (85+81). Senior Korina Freidag(Lanark-Eastland HS, Lake Carroll, Ill.) shot 174 (88+86) and freshman Jillian Stone(Rockridge HS, Reynolds, Ill.)had a 181 (93+88).
