Augustana Vikings place third in Dechert Classic and Melanie Loeffler takes fourth individually
DECATUR, Ill. – In the final tune-up before the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championship this coming weekend the Augustana women’s golf team placed third at the six-team Dechert Classic in Decatur, Illinois. The two-day event over September 30 and October 1 was held at two different golf courses; Red Tail Run and Scovil.
Head Coach Tom Lawrence’s team finished third with a two-day total of 668 (337+331) while Rose-Hulman won the event with a score of 629 (313+316). McKendree, an NCAA Division II team, was second at 634 (320+314). Carl Sandburg took fourth with 717 (352+365) and Millikin was fifth at 727 (366+361). MacMurray shot 445 the first day and did not finish the second day.
Sophomore Melanie Loeffler(Lockport HS, Home Glen, Ill.) took fourth individually to lead the way for the Vikings. She carded 158 over 36 holes with an 80 on the first day and a 78 on the second. Adrain Brown of McKendree won the meet with a two day total of 150 (75+75) while Rose-Hulman had the next two spots. Caitlin Coverstone shot 151 (73+78) to take second and Ashton Foushee was third with a 153 (80+73).
Freshman Jillian Stone(Rockridge HS, Reynolds, Ill.) has been extremely effective lately and she was the second lowest Viking this weekend. She carded at 166 (84+82) and placed 12th individually. Freshman Miranda Sharp(Minooka HS, Shorewood, Ill.) had a 170 (87+83) while sophomore Grace Ludwig(Glenbard East HS, Lombard, Ill.)shot 181 (93+88). Senior Jenna Lawrence(Moline HS, Moline, Ill.)recorded a 182 with rounds of 86 and 96.
Freshman Jennifer Filotto(Joliet Catholic Academy, Romeoville, Ill.) and sophomore Leah Crandell(Downers South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) did not count in the team scoring but both played in the tournament. Filotto shot 188 (94+94) and Crandell had a 202 (99+103).
Augustana will play in the CCIW Championships on October 5 through October 7 at Prairie Landing Golf Club in West Chicago, Illinois.
