Tigers top Rockets 5-2

The Sherrard Tigers softball team defeated Rockridge 5-2 on April 13.

The Tigers came up with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the contest from the Rockets.

Rockridge drew first blood in the top of the second inning. Gillian Goodwin homered with one out in the inning.

Sherrard struck back in the bottom of the second inning to tie the score.

Megan Kissner reached bas on an error and scored on a Kayla Tatge double.

The score remained tied until the top of the sixth inning when the Rockets pushed another run across.

Caitlin Lingle led off the inning with a walk against new Sherrard pitcher Erica Bowers and came around to score after an error.

Trailing 2-1 the Tigers came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kelly Hornick led off the inning with a walk. Ashley Parker drew a walk as well and Tarran Shaffer loaded the bases with a single. Kayla Tatge delivered the big blow with a two-out double to score two runs. Karlee Rumler followed with a single and the Tigers led 4-2. Tatge later came in to score giving the Tigers the 5-2 lead.

The Rockets weren't finished though as Amanda Williams singled to lead off the top of the seventh inning. After a fielders's choice Jennifer Krueger and Hailey Deem followed with singles to load the bases. But that's where they stayed as the Tigers recorded the final out.

Sherrard improved to 17-2 with the victory.
