United thumps AlWood-ROWVA

The United High School girls softball team defeated AlWood-ROWVA 9-6 on April 27.

Annawan/Wethersfield scored five times in the top of the sixth inning to knot the score at 6-6. But United scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game away.

Taylor Toops and Kaitlyn Winkler drove in three runs apiece in the contest. Gina Long, Augusta Chandler and Rachel Kenney each drove in a run as well.

United got off to a good start scoring twice in the first inning and adding another run in the second. The Red Storm scored three times in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead.

Amy Olson pitched for the Red Storm allowing nine hits in seven innings walking one and striking out nine.
