Local girls compete in state track meet

Several students from Mercer County, Sherrard, Rockridge and United high schools competed in the preliminary heats of the Class 1A girls state track finals Thursday, May 20 in Charleston.

Two Sherrard relay teams qualified for the finals. The team advanced individuals in six other events. Stalwarts Sarah Boraas and Lacey Hainline advanced to the finals in each of the events they competed in.

Sherrard's 4 x 100  meter relay team (Katie Kirwan, Lacey Hainline, Madison Kissner and Sarah Boraas) won their preliminary heat and qualified for the finals with a time of 49.80. It was the fastest qualifying time of the day in the event.

Sherrard's 4 x 200 meter relay team (Allie Munday, Madison Kissner, Katie Kirwan and Sarah Boraas) won its preliminary heat with a time of 1:46.28 on Thursday and qualified for the finals. It was the third fastest time of the day in the event.

Sherrard senior Sarah Boraas won her preliminary heat in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.62. It was the fourth fastest time of the day in the event.

Boraas also won the preliminary heat of the 300 meter hurdles  with a time of 46.76 and qualified for the finals. Her time was the fourth fastest of the day.

Sherrard senior Lacey Hainline won her preliminary heat in the 100 meter dash and advanced to the finals with a time of 12.83. It was the second fastest time of the day.

Hainline won her preliminary heat in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.84 and qualified for the finals. It was the ninth fastest time of the day.

Hainline won her preliminary heat in the 200 meter dash and qualified for the finals with a time of 25.95. It was the second fastest time of the day.

Sherrard senior Kelsey Thompson qualified for the finals in the high jump with a leap of 5-02 on Thursday.

United senior Mollie Murdock reached the height of 4-11 in the high jump on Thursday but did not advance.

United's 4 x 200 meter relay team (Blake Callihan, Katie Schag, Mollie Murdock and Carissa Youngquist) ran a time of 1:52.26 but did not qualify for the finals.

Rockridge's Daisy Bower did not reach the minimum height in the high jump.

Rockridge's Bre Lawless shot put throw of 32-00.75 on Thursday was not enough to advance to the finals.

Rockridge's 4 x 400 meter relay team (Emily Watkins, Chelsea McManus, Darcee Parchert and Bre Lawless) placed sixth in its heat with a time of 4:19.46 but failed to advance to the finals.

Sherrard's Maggie McCormick throw the shot put 32-00 but it was not enough to reach the finals.

Sherrard's 4 x 400 meter relay team (Allie Munday, Abbey Warner, Madison Kissner and Katie Kirwan) placed fifth in its preliminary heat with a time of 4:15.44 but did not qualify for the finals.

Mercer County sophomore Bailey Krstic competed in the long jump Thursday but her jump of 14-00.25 was not long enough to advance to the finals.

Mercer County's Dylane Riddell competed in the discus on Thursday but her throw of 102-10 was not enough to reach the finals.

Mercer County senior Logan Partlow competed in the 400 meter dash and finished with a time of 1:02.09 but did not qualify for the finals.
