Chargers knock offf Golden eagles in Holiday Tourney

The Orion Chargers boys basketball team defeated Mercer County 65-56 in the first game of the ROWVA-Ridegewood Boys Basketball Holiday Tournament Dec. 14 in Oneida.

Orion took a 17-14 lead in first quarter. Danny Debacker and Andy Adams led the way for the Chargers scoring eight and seven points respectively. Colton Wood helped the Golden Eagles keep pace with nine points.

The Chargers lengthened their lead in the second quarter outscoring Mercer County 23-13 in the second period. Tanner Williams scored 12 points in the period for Orion.

Orion led 40-27 at the half.

Orion outscored Mercer County 16-14 in the third period. Tanner Dunn led the Golden Eagles with five points in the period while DeBacker and Williams had six apiece. Orion led 56-41 heading into the final period.

Mercer County outscored Orion 15-9 in the final period but it wasn't enough to win.

Scoring form Mercer County were: Wood, 20; Tanner Matlick, 10; Tanner Dunn, seven; Tanner Benson and Spencer Islamoski, six; Derick Hermanson, four and Cole Muske, three.

Williams led Orion with 22 points while DeBacker added 18.
