United girls top Ridgewood

The United High School girls basketball team defeated Ridgewood 70-47 on Jan. 10.

Ashlynn Winkler led the United girls to a 25-9 lead in the first quarter of play. Winkler scored 14 points in the opening period for the Red Storm.

United held a 44-24 lead at the half. Winkler and Brooke Armstrong had six points apiece in the second period of the contest.

The Red Storm lengthened its lead in the third quarter by going on a 17-8 run in the period. Augusta Chandler had seven of the Red Storm's 17 points in the period.

Ridgewood outscored United 15-9 in the final period but it was too little too late for them.

Scoring for United were: Winkler, 22; Gina Long, 14; Taylor Toops, 10; Brooke Armstrong, nine; Katie Kaywood, three and Megan Patterson, two.
