United girls hold off Ridgewood
The United girls basketball team held off Ridgewood, 55-52 on Jan. 17.
After scoring only 27 points through the first three quarters RIdgwood scored 25 points in the final period to make it a contest.
But they fell just short losing by three points.
United jumped out to a six point lead in the first quarter. Taylor Toops hit a three pointer and scored five points in the period while Ashlynn WInkler added another four.
United outscored Ridgewood 12-8 in the second period to increase its lead to 25-15 at the half. Augusta Chandler hit a three pointer and scored seven points in the second period for United while Red Storm teammate Gina Long chipped in four points. Ridgewood's Emma Teel scored six points in the period.
United edged their lead up to 13 points in the third period. Gina Long scored six for United in the period.
Ridgewood came back in the final period hitting nine of ten at the free throw line but it wasn't enough.
Ella Tel of Ridgewood led all scorers with 19 points.
Scoring for United were: Augusta Chandler, 14; Ashlynn Winkler and Gina Long, 13; Katie Kaywood, seven; Taylor Toops, five; Megan Patterson, two and Kelsey Crain, one.
