United stops Mercer County 58-25

The United High School girls basketball team defeated Mercer County 58-25 on Monday night, Jan. 31.

United jumped out to a 20-4 lead in the first quarter. Gina Long had seven points in the period.

By halftime United led 34-9. Ashlyn WInkler led the United charge with six points in the period. Michaela Baker had all five of the Golden Eagles second quarter points.

Six members of the Red Storm scored in the third quarter as they extended the team's lead to 50-15.

Mercer County regrouped in the final period to outscore United 10-8.

Scoring for United were: Ashlynn Winkler, 14; Gina Long, 13; Augusta Chandler, eight; Katie Kaywood and Kelsey Crain, six; Taylor Toops, four; Megan Patterson, three; Gretchen Schrock, two and Jennifer Elliott and Sydney Toops, one.

Scoring for Mercer County were led in scoring by Bailey Krstic and Baker, five; Emma Downey and Miranda Biddle, four.
