Mercer County girls and boys place first, second at Prime Beef Run

Mercer County's Sam Whan wins the Prime Beef Run in Monmouth Sept. 8 finishing the 5k course in 16:41.

The Mercer County girls and boys cross country teams placed first and second at the Prime Beef Run in Monmouth on Sept. 7.


The Mercer County girls won first place outscoring Macomb 29-46 overall. Annawan Wethersfield placed third, 60 and Farmington fourth with 89 points.

Scoring and ties for the Mercer County women were: 2nd Miranda Biddle 20:38; 4th Sydney Brokaw 21:06; 9th Jenna Ortberg 22:07; 11th Christina McKnight 22:42; 14th Ally Engle 23:08 and 15th Jackie Nation 23:08.

Karyn Paisley of Macomb put in the best time of the day for the girls, 20:28.


The Mercer County boys placed second overall to Annawan Wethersfield. The Titans had 32 points easily outdistancing the Golden Eagles 56 points. Other teams at the meet included Macomb, 76; Monmouth-Roseville, 82 and Farmington, 124. Golden Eagle Sam Whan did place first overall for the Golden Eagle men.

Placement and times for for Mercer County Runners were: 1st Sam Whan 16:41; 7th Bryan Goman 18:12; 15th Austin Jackson 19:30; 16th David Kantor 19:33; 21st Jordan Franks 20:03; 25th Christian Anthony 20:29; 26th Matt Griswold 20:34; 28th Hunter Anthony 21:18 and 29th Grant Biddle 21:21.
