These 6 Peoria-area high school basketball teams were among the state's best academically
Six Peoria-area high school basketball programs were among the state's best academically, earning an Academic All-State Team Award from the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.
Programs had to have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade-point average (or 4.0 on a 5.0 scale) to qualify. In all, 21 area programs hit the minimum requirement. Of those, six finished among the 42 programs statewide in the top three across the IBCA's seven legislative districts.
The Farmington and Havana girls had the highest GPA in in their district, while the Tremont girls were third in theirs.
On the boys side, Fieldcrest and Bushnell-Prairie City had the second-highest GPA in their districts. The Henry boys were third in theirs.
The other area programs to hit the GPA requirement: Girls programs from Brimfield, Dunlap, Fieldcrest, Hall, Illini West, Kewanee, Limestone, Monmouth-Roseville, Olympia, Peoria High, Princeton and St. Bede; and boys programs from Kewanee, St. Bede and Monmouth-Roseville.
The teams with the highest GPA in each district will be presented with a plaque at the IBCA coach’s clinic in September. Second- and third-place teams will receive a certificate in the mail.
