IHSA girls basketball: Here are the Springfield area's top 15 high school players
The girls basketball season is here in Illinois.
As the season kicks off, here are the top girls basketball players to follow this season in the Springfield area. They are assembled in no particular order.
KLOE FROEBE, LINCOLN
The standout sophomore guard recently picked up her 21st NCAA Division-I offer from Arizona State earlier this month. She averaged 26.4 points and 8.1 rebounds in 18 games as a freshman. She additionally earned all-state nods from The Associated Press and Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, the only freshman to achieve both distinctions.
JILLIAN HAMILTON, PANA
The 5-foot-10 senior guard/forward led the Panthers last season with 16 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.3 steals and one block per game. Athletic inside and outside, Hamilton also garnered IBCA all-state in Class 2A.

AUDREY SABOL, NOKOMIS
The junior forward posted 11.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while shooting 50% from the floor. She also collected first-team honors in the MSM and Prairie State conferences.
MEGHAN WEGNER, SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN
The senior guard is the only returning player who appeared in all 17 games last season for the 16-1 Cyclones. She averaged 4.8 points and 1.9 rebounds per game.
LAYNE RUPERT, HILLSBORO
The junior guard knocked down 27 3-pointers and averaged 11.5 points and 2.7 assists per game to lead the Hiltoppers to a 12-4 overall mark.
LAUREN FLAGLER, JACKSONVILLE
The senior starter returns after averaging 6.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game for the Crimsons.
CHEYENNE TROTTER, LANPHIER
The senior forward/center has been a four-year starter and averaged 9.9 points per game last winter. She’s among several other returning seniors, including Laney Parker, Moriah Crawford and Mariah Smylie, after the Lions went 9-5 in 2021.
KALEAH TORAN, SPRINGFIELD HIGH
The dynamic guard is among seven seniors back for the Senators and averaged 12.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
JAYCE PRIVIA, PETERSBURG PORTA/A-C CENTRAL
The sophomore guard helped fuel the Bluejays to an undefeated 14-0 season with 11.2 points, four rebounds and three assists per game.
KAYLEN REED, ROCHESTER
The 5-foot-6 junior guard earned IBCA special mention in 3A and averaged 13.2 points and 5.2 assists per game last season. Six-foot junior Emma Dixon is another player to watch with 12.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
MARLEY SMITH, AUBURN
The dominant senior averaged 17.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and two steals per game for the Trojans. She has already surpassed 1,200 career points.
DIAVIAN MEHUNDREW, SOUTHEAST
The Spartans only got to compete in 10 games but the senior point guard continued to produce last season with 15.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
MADDIE ROBERTS, WILLIAMSVILLE
The senior guard averaged 15 points, six rebounds and five steals per game and was named IBCA special mention in 2A.
ADDIE DOBSON, JACKSONVILLE ROUTT
The senior guard averaged 15.6 points, four rebounds and three assists to lead the Rockets to an 8-2 mark.
JORDAN CLOSS, SANGAMON VALLEY/BUFFALO TRI-CITY
The 5-foot-8 senior guard/forward will lead the Storm after posting 8.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.3 steals per game last season.
