Farmington, Abingdon-Avon, Princeton football seasons end in quarterfinals

The Farmington football team's unbeaten season came to an end.

The Farmers (11-1) lost to Downs Tri-Valley 34-12 in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A playoffs Saturday in Downs.

Farmington was held to 204 total yards, including minus-8 rushing. Gage Renken was 12-for-20 passing for 212 yards and three interceptions. He added a rushing TD. 

Tri-Valley's Andrew Petrilli had 254 total yards, including 179 yards rushing and two TDs on 25 carries. He was 5-for-8 passing for 75 yards and a TD. Blake Regenold added 61 yards and two TDs on 16 carries for Tri-Valley.

Tri-Valley (12-0) advances to a state semifinal on the road against Wilmington. This is the deepest Tri-Valley has gone in the football playoffs since winning the Class 1A state title in 2015.

Ethan Evans added a kick return for a touchdown for Farmington, playing in its first state quarterfinal since 2016.

Ridgeview/Lexington 51, Abingdon-Avon 12

Colfax Ridgeview/Lexington (8-4) of the Heart of Illinois Conference rushed for 348 yards and secured a spot in the semifinals with a Class 1A quarterfinal victory over Abingdon-Avon.

Former Morton coach Hal Chiodo is now coach at Ridgeview, which travels to face Lena-Winslow in a semifinal scheduled for 2 p.m. next Saturday.

Abingdon-Avon (10-2) ends its season with its first quarterfinal appearance in school history.

This is the first semifinal trip for Ridgeview after quarterfinal appearances in 1997 and 2003. As a standalone school, Lexington — now part of the co-op — has five state runner-up finishes in its history (1980, '89, '94, 2001 and '09). 

Kaden Farrell finished with 146 yards and four touchdowns for Ridgeview. Easten Schisler rushed for 97 yards and was 11-of-22 passing for 101 yards.

IC Catholic 31, Princeton 7

Princeton (10-2) saw its season come to an end with a loss to state No. 1 Elmhurst Immaculate Conception in the Class 3A quarterfinals.
